Oh? No one has any so it’s important to maintain existing infrastructure for the best outcomes?

It only includes sites where the server-side language can be detected. That’s often easy with PHP because of URLs ending in
.phpand well-known software like Wordpress which identifies itself in ways that are easy for a crawler to detect.
So there are possibly more PHP sites out there than we realize, because the ones which disguise their URLs are ambiguous
It counts sites, not traffic. There are a lot of Wordpress sites out there which get three visitors a month.
You shouldn’t be as concerned with popularity, and much more concerned with attack surface. Your argument certainly can’t be that there are thousands of idle servers out there that should no longer be maintained because no one reads the blog hosted on them?

Looks like you’ll never pay that much for a device ever again

AI companies ruin the RAM and video card market, so no one runs 200GB models for free.
No, AI companies ruin the RAM, Storage, and video market so no one can compute independently, and they all have to stream cloud services which can be monitored by AI, gatekept without the possibility of piracy (or first sale doctorine), unhackable/unmodable, and rented forever.
This is way bigger than gaming. What happens when they can predict markets? What happens when they can move markets? When journalists get silenced, when inconvenient truths are hidden?
Why wouldn’t they when we are so dependent on it?

It’s funny that you think in 2028 Microsoft is going to let you install any OS you want on any hardware they sell.
Brother in 2028 the only hardware you will be able to buy will stream all your software from the cloud for a rental fee. They’re coming and taking away computing.

Not enough people realize this. They think the component shortage is a side effect, but it’s to push you towards cloud services on underpowered devices that rely on it.
Imagine the censorship when every service is monitored and controlled by them. Imagine the market capture when they can see everyone’s financials and trade secrets. When they can cut off journalists and activists with one click.

The same way you know the rest of the data hasn’t been tampered with - you don’t. And when you find untrustworthy instances, you defederate from them.
The AI push is really about buying up all the compute components to make independent, individual ownership impractical.
Then we all have to buy walled garden dumb terminal tablets that rely on cloud services to function.
They can watch, censor, and block anything they want. And we pay them for the privilege.
This is the true reason for AI being shoved down our throats. All you can afford are cloud based walled garden dumb terminals. They can lock them down, they can monitor everything you do, and they can charge a subscription for access.
Oh and if they don’t like you for whatever reason then they can just cut you off from your data and the services you need to pay your bills, commute with friend and family, be entertained, everything.
A complete and total Barf-o-rama.

One of these things is a lie. It really doesn’t matter which one.

This is correct. We can thrash all we want about slop and hallucinations, but from a defensive posture position, the models only need to be right some of the time and they still constitute a threat.
Knowing it sucks and pretending it doesn’t exist are two different things.
If it’s not getting security updates and it’s not ona completely airgapped sysyem it’s a huge liability. Especially something that lives at the storage level.
Aren’t there forks being maintained? I was looking at implementing it right before it went enshitty, and I could have sworn there were alternatives…
There isn’t anything wrong with passkeys that can’t also be made wrong with passwords, and there isn’t anything more secure about passwords, at all.
Please don’t tell me you took that article that was spammed all over here a few days ago at face value…

It’s giving

It’s 2026 and you have way too much optimism left after all the OSS rug pulls of the last six fucking years.
Even hardware rugpulled. Fucking Micron.
Forget it; BitWarden is cooked.

Every single time Bitwarden is mentioned on the internet, someone comes in here and proudly recites the anthem “I have been using Keep ass with sink things”
It sucks compared to a dedicated extension.
No autofill No TOTP or 2FA support Doesn’t do passkeys Doesn’t have organizational sharing Doesn’t sync to mobile devices Doesn’t integrate with mobile browsers without trusting some compatible 3rd party app Requires selfhosting your passwords (don’t fuck it up!)
It’s actually pretty sad that the open source world doesn’t have a better solution for this. I mean I guess BitWarden was it but that’s been stolen by venture capital so
It had cloud storage, built in TOTP with autofill, and some had features like organizations and sharing
Still, this fucking sucks. Bitwarden was literally created as a ln answer to this shit happening to LastPass and Dashlane.

Smart TVs just find those “open” hotspots that cable providers leave on everyone’s modem now; you don’t even need to agree to TOS before it starts locating and spying.
Every device is a wiretap. Every device is a wiretap. We live in a panopticon. The purpose of AI is to price us out of the component market. You can’t escape if you can’t afford your own hardware.

You own your identity.
Your handle, your posts, your followers. Outgrow a server? Move and take everyone with you. No lock-in, no starting over.
Patently not true, every server you sign up for is a different account and if you move servers you make an entirely new account there that cannot edit any of your posts, comments, or DMs; there is no method of transfer outside of some external tools that allow you to move your follow lists, which typically need to be the same service (can’t move your Lemmy communities to Mastodon follows last I looked).
Also anyone following you does not automatically follow your new identity.
TBH this is something that ActivityPub was not designed for, but it should be.
The real reason is because the data centers aren’t for AI. They’re for taking up all the components so you can’t compute independently anymore and you need to run “apps” from the ”cloud” so they can “monitor” your “behavior” for “tailored ads” and “terrorist threats” and cut you off completely if you ever retroactively violated their updated EULA that covers all the people they don’t like.
They are stealing computing from us and the business world is letting it happen in the name of cost savings.
I swear to god before I die I will see capitalism driven into the mud to drown
