“Reposters” as a separate thing from “Bots” with the same Show and Hide options for filtering that bots have. Reposters are more targeted, with higher quality content than true bots and often have a human operator writing comments. However many people find this inauthentic so now they can be filtered out. The only thing holding me back from migrating is the clients I use- Voyager and Alexandrite. I need to be able to see my upvoted, down voted, and hidden content
You can see your up and downed content on PyLova.
It works with Voyager? What’s a good instance? Is there only one?
Slightly off topic, but is hosting a PieFed instance becoming the better option over a lemmy one these days? Any thoughts there?
If it matters, as a user, I like piefed a lot more than I liked lemmy
May I ask why? No worries if you don’t want to share but I have been running a private instance of lemmy for a while now, what is better about piefed?
Quick backstory: I started on lemmynsfw.com which is still viewable as an archive, but the admin disappeared and the server was redirected to join a piefed instance, fedinsfw.app, which is what you can see I’m on now. The difference was immediate to me.
I like the default UI a lot better, that’s probably the biggest thing. It’s intuitive and doesn’t feel like I’m looking at a worse version of Craigslist. I know that sounds minor, but I think a lot of people around here drastically underestimate the learning curve involved with adopting the fediverse at all, and coming onto a more intuitive and better-looking page helps a lot.
On lemmy, it took me a long time to learn about alternative UIs, and then I had to log into the alternative UI I liked separately and then always remember to go to photon.whateverlemmy.com, and links might not open in the correct UI or in the UI I was logged into, it was kind of a headache. So when I was trying to encourage other people to join, I had to, like, explain all of this to them, and it was just a no-go for 99.99% of people. It also just made linksharing to my friends off-site much harder.
I’ve interacted with a few people from mastodon on here which is new to me, I love having the wider pool of people available.
Some things that I would never give up now as a porno artist: tagging, that’s HUGE, and that the default UI is a lot more image-focused while the default lemmy UI is a little more old-reddit looking. omg people can follow me on piefed!
The dev is also really responsive and improving things a lot faster than the lemmy devs were (no shade there, we’re all in different places in life, but it does matter) and now very recently he’s added multi-image support which was a huge deal for me. The gallery support is a liiiiiittle cumbersome at this stage, but it’s 1. new and 2. again super worth it for the things that piefed comes with otherwise.
Hahaha oh this line right here has me rolling, so true
doesn’t feel like I’m looking at a worse version of Craigslist.
Thanks for sharing! Yah that all seems to be major improvements over what is just the basic Lemmy UI. The piefed instances I have seen also just feel and look different visually in a positive way, same for the fedinsfw instance as well. Thank you for sharing your experience, and the detailed response. I appreciate it!
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share all my opinions ehe!
My comment is probably biaised because i’m part of PieFed team (translation, wiki, idea, issue…). I hope more devs will join us :)
On the moderation side, features, PieFed reached a good maturity. We have good tools against bot, and other tools that improve our community. I dunno how other fediverse software handle that.
On UI, we are fine, there is a bottom nav bar, a search bar it works well on mobile. It is visually clean except lengthy community and menu. There is room for improvement compared to Lemmy and Mbin. It will be adressed soon :)
The main thing that most Lemmy users will miss are mobile app because PieFed API are not complete or app are in developpement. Also that’s because PieFed improve and grow at a very fast space.
However, you can use PWA (progressive web app), it works well. Also Lemmy v1.0 will catch up some piefed feature.
If you are interested, you can try it on yunohost or create an alt to try it. :)
What do the multi-image posts look like when federated to Lemmy? Even if I don’t see the extra images, I hope there’s at least some sign I’m missing something so I can go looking elsewhere.
Lemmy just displays the first image and ignores the rest.
In a future version maybe we can insert the images into the post body, or make Lemmy link to the PF version of the post.
Good question, i will test it. For now the only gallery post i see are from Mastodon. :)
On PyLova they show up in a Lemmy posts body on software that cannot support them.
