It would only be good if it was a tax that would force websites to be simple like the 90s to reduce all the garbage data a website loads nowadays.

Yeah, autocorrect doesn’t care what I do. Lol
I say you are missing the fun.
I bought carbide studded tires for my bicycle, and rode all winter back and forth to work. -20C doesn’t feel cold once you start peddling, and you actually have to unzip layers to cool off.
The summers at 35C were hot, but the sweat and moving through the air cool you.
Very invigorating feeling compared to being in a gym.
That science adage: To measure, is to change.

People tend to overbuild their home system.
You can start small and as you gain experience and maybe add more servers in docker you might want to upgrade. I.e. I was file hosting on a pi4 and external drive for years with no issues. (Upgraded hardware later for Immich)
And you will want Immich (in docker ) for replacing Google photos.
But since your workload is low a NUC or small form factor PC would be fine, as long as it has space for how many drives you plan on adding. You won’t need high end computing.
OpenMediaVault was great, and made some stuff easy. But now I just use Tumbleweed and docker for more flexibility. Any Linux distro will be fine, you don’t have to use a NAS based OS, unless it has certain features you would find useful.

The one issue is if you actually push it hard, you get a cease and desist from the provider like my coworker
The only negative is with the case installed, you don’t know if it is powering on when you hit the button, because there is no fan noise or HDD noise (I used SSDs). So you have to peek in the top vent to see if mobo lights flicker. 😀
See if you can find a Monsterlabo case. They went out of business, but their fanless cases are all heatsink so zero noise.
I picked up the itx model and overspecd the power supply so that the power supply fan never turns on either.

40 watts normal up to 60 watts. That includes modem and router. PC is fanless system.
Yeah when people say they can’t get a podcast because its not on the apple served list. umm RSS exists and did before apple brainwashed people.

Yeah I mean we only feel/say ouch because that’s the evolved reaction to force us to avoid that situation at all costs. But in future we may have neural AI that is setup in a similar way to self preserve.
Personally I think consciousness mind is looking to be deterministic anyway, and so we are just a chemical “AI”. We take all the parameters and conditions ams weight them to make a choice, but if you could roll back time and have exact environment (same external stimuli, same body heat, same hunger and thirst level, same breeze blowing, etc. again it is looking like we’d do the exact thing, and choice is an illusion in our consciousness.

We may get to a level where the AI ‘thinks’ it is in pain, and then we’d have to debate on is perceived pain real pain. Is our pain real, or also just a programmed response to stop doing the thing you are doing to preserve ourselves.

Yeah kimd of. Docker is a container management system. Like a Virtual Machine except it isn’t a whole OS being used to host each “virtual machine,”. it connects a closed container to the kernel. So you have a container with a specific stripped down app inside it that you can connect to.
Architecture has to match though.
We can only hope
