Technology@lemmy.world•Head of Instagram Says He Has No Idea How to Deal With Wave of Horrible AI SlopEnglish
10·3 days agoYep. I pretty much use antisocial media exclusively these days. Smaller, more human oriented and operated, with no “algorithms” to drive perpetual engagement. It’s like the internet of almost 30 years ago in all the best ways.

1·8 days agoHah you weren’t kidding. Just looked at the org. SSL cert issue and 2 lines of text. SSL certs can definitely be a pain. And I haven’t designed a website myself in nearly 20 years realistically. Last one I did was for a project related to a tool using the old xiph.org vorbis tools long long ago. Simple and tight to not take forever even over dialup as broaband was still pretty new.
Will have to dig through the read mes later. Sort out database needs.

2·8 days agoIs that so? I suppose if anyone might know it would be you. I’ve given some thought to running a small local instance. May have to take a look later.

1·9 days agoOh absolutely. I’m not against using AI where appropriate. But you do always have to check 100%. But it’s definitely troubling how much people are looking to offload thinking in general.

4·9 days agoIt’s not really my type of game. I kind of cut my teeth on FPS back in the early 90s. So I’m a bit more comfortable with the Boomer shooters. But it’s definitely enjoyable. I’ve not reached the end game ever. And I’m not actually played it much since it went 1.0. But the scenery is of course very beautiful and the systems are a lot of fun to play around with. I find I get a little bit OCD though and end up taking a ton of time having perfectly laid out conveyor belts.

191·9 days agoI have one just for the free games. Load it all through heroic. Got hundreds, bought zero. And some of em are pretty decent. I’ve seen outer worlds pop up twice on it. I think I may have gotten satisfactory from it as well. Guardians of the Galaxy, river city girls one and two, deaths door. But that’s the only reason.

Technology@lemmy.world•Gemini Doesn't Talk About Elections, But It Just Gave Me Its Internal GuidelinesEnglish
9·9 days agoWell on one hand it makes sense. Providing election misinformation can be punishable. Rarely is but it can be. And frankly its just kind of terrifying that so many people would readily turn to AI for these answers. When they could/should just go to such websites and get it themselves. Especially considering how bad current models are about hallucinating and giving false answers just to give an answer. Not to mention the agenda of those controlling them.
Ai won’t be the end of us. But lack of tech literacy and critical thinking might.

2·10 days agoIt’s the weakest of weak arguments. But they aren’t technically wrong. Though I don’t agree with the fervor their chasing this with. If there is one field where AI might make some sense. It is coding Etc. Unfortunately, likely at the moment they are still using large commercial models such as Claude etc. Run by exploitative oligarchs. That said, if you want someone to displace the exploitative oligarchs. People like Torvald are exactly the sort of people you need. They know exactly how exploitative the tech Giants are. And are developing platform and systems that will be capable of replacing them. While being capable of being much more ethical, sustainable, and available. It’s kind of their whole thing for 40 years or so.

5·24 days agoYes, I don’t disagree. But they aren’t, and that should be telling. If AI was as advertised, they 100% would be starting build out right now. Because it would be replacing everyone and their product is central to current wasteful processes. They know it won’t. But are happily riding the bubble for the moment.

1·1 month agoGlad to see they’re doing well. It’s a solid client and I’ve used if for years via fdroid.
Even if they aren’t. The interface isn’t that bad. More just different. It takes some adjustment. Although there 100% is an old threaded like interface for lemmy at least. But that’s an issue for Discovery and presentation.
