I’ve never heard of, let alone seen such a platform ban.
I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I’m not aware of them banning for that kind of thing.

Big, if true.

what lemmy needs is the niche subs
I see far more “someone else should make a community” than people making communities. I think that’s a bit silly and selfish.

In your first paragraph you hint at shadowbanning.
You can’t even shadowban people at all on Lemmy (as far as I know), while it’s a go-to for unethical Reddit moderators; nothing can be done to stop them and most people don’t even know it exists.
I was shadowbanned from /r/tampa because I asked them to implement removal reasons (a feature that’s existed on Reddit and takes five or ten minutes to set up). That upset /u/md28usmc and he shadowbanned me for it. Asking why I was shadowbanned led to them perma-banning me.

As a long time Reddit mod and new Lemmy.World mod, I do lament the lack of many helpful features I’m used to, but I’m glad for:
The significantly reduced likelihood of a moderator going rogue (because a rival community can pop up in its place with the same name and do a better job and the admins here are much more responsive and transparent)
Public-facing mod logs (see previous point)
One of the big reasons I’m even here is /r/tampa’s moderators went off the deep end, quietly shadowbanning people they didn’t like, banning anyone who talked about it, and lying about doing both.
If I were to do something similar with /c/tampa, I trust an admin would remove me and/or someone would start whatever.instance/c/tampa. On Reddit, running /r/FreeTampa (because you can’t just have another /r/tampa), I have to be very careful about talking about why the subreddit even exists or we get slapped for brigading; Reddit is staunchly against anyone constructively criticizing subreddits/moderators.

From the platform or a subreddit?
“Fuck off” isn’t against Reddit ToS.

Yep, I zap away and it works fine.

some folks are suspecting that Reddit SWEs are monitoring the redlib project with close attention & trying to shut down any workarounds the redlib team finds
I would be amazed if they didn’t.

They’ve been nibbling away at the logged out experience, month to month.

The big problem is most people say “Ugh, fine, I’ll log in with Google,” rather than you and I who say “Ugh, no.”

Again, I emphasize: you are talking about this as if picking a team.
Yeah, I mean, gotta buy video games from someone. Valve’s one of the least shitty corporations by far, so they get my money.
Vavle do not deserve excuses and hand-waving just because one thinks they are a ‘lesser evil’ in some other context; every service should get criticized a-la-carte.
Why don’t you think I’m open to a-la-carte criticism? I’ve expressed plainly that it’s valid. Do you want me to fight you about it or something?
They are not people, they do not get passes.
I would say people don’t get passes either; I could quote Stannis the Mannis, but I won’t.
But I’m not going to apologize for Valve in the same breath eather, and I am appaled so many commenters here are.
Are you ranting with me or at me here? I never “apologized” for them.

It’s not thorny to me, but then I’m used to polite disagreement where I’ve found many would turn hostile, so perhaps your padding at the end was a good plan - even if not necessary for me personally.
You raise good points, but it’s one of those “Don’t let the Perfect be the enemy of the Good” things. No system can catch 100% of these problems that you correctly point out. At least, none that I can imagine nor that you propose.
Right now, Valve is the “best” video game distributor - apart from maybe GoG. I hope GoG dethrones them as the only reasons Valve is “better” are Linux support and market dominance (ergo convenience), and perhaps the AI craze will be the wedge issue that GoG takes a firm stance against, at which point they’d be in a good spot to take over.
Unfortunately, I strongly suspect the vast majority of consumers simply do not care if a game was developed with AI.
All that to say: I agree they should be doing more, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I’d be behind spot-checking at the very least. I feel like Valve is trustworthy enough that most devs should be able to open-source their code to Valve.
If you get caught, you get perma-banned from Steam.
Then put a little thingie showing how many years a dev has existed (so people can put their AI-detector thinking caps on when they see a dev that’s existed for 3 months putting out a fully polished game).

Basically, yeah. Law enforcement supervisors prefer higher arrest volume.

“Oh no, the all-purpose machine we made is being used for one of those purposes that was predicted by just about every scifi ever!”
They’re just protesting to virtue signal.
They were simply terrible for each other. They both won out by breaking up.

Would you consider that laptop particularly robust? Was your rapid compute power critical to your role?
In my very similar case, the answers were: No and No
A lot of the work I did was subtly cloud-based. If the internet was slow, “local” tasks slowed significantly.

Pen-testing is part of good security…
…but let’s be real, anyone who believes Trump won’t exploit this rather than patch it is delusional.
Tons of people call people dumb on Reddit and never get suspended for it.
I could see them defending spez’s honor, but not just calling random people dumb.
