Mullvad and airvpn are the two good non-self-hosted alternatives I know

That’s why I have all container configs and stuff like that in a single directory that I can easily back up

Besides the DMARC, SPF and DKIM stuff, try to get your domain from a hoster that will try to keep you off large spam lists. Spamhaus is a popular one of those lists.
