I’m not even sure it’s great at that. Is this not a function of any industry struggling to find a usecase eventually ending up with the largest US employer and cash cow: the DoD?

Diversification helps here. Being able to switch service providers easy and quickly is best for users.
At the moment it’s good for Europeans to focus on domestic services, but in the long run our laws and governments may also turn more oppressive, so having many different reliable alternatives is the recipe for a free and empowered society.

We already got solutions. What’s missing is the courage and incentives to actually adopt them by political leaders and the larger public. If AI would replace our politicians maybe it could help, otherwise it’s just the latest proof that there’s plenty of money around to transform the economy into whatever we want it to be. I guess we prefer chat bots over carbon neutral.

We don’t need that many data centers, so we also don’t need to expand energy production at this scale.
Even renewables have an impact and for some reason countries love to build their solar parks in nature reserves rather than a desert. Go figure.
You gotta weigh the pros and cons for every decision. This has nothing to do with perfectionism when the cons are clearly outnumbering the pros.

Still needs to follow environmental protections and go easy on the locals. Having wind turbines everywhere just for data centers isn’t so great either.

I wish. Organizations and countries/municipalities are far too lazy to make the change.
I’m not sure we got the same definition for fun. You seem to have the Saudi version.
