These cards are so specialized only the absolute enthusiasts would bother with them. They’re big, awkward, and very power hungry. Not suitable for any halfway sane person to just have sitting idle 80% of the time. The VAST majority of them will end up as ewaste.

3 2 1 offsite backups typically happen a lot less often than local copies or local backups.
I also don’t really consider any machines data to be irreplaceable. If I lose my phone I want the latest backup. But taxes or photos I care for? Those are an entirely different backup, and those aren’t incremental. They’re just what they are.

Kinda depends on what it’s for. My server? IDK, 2 days. Maybe have a dedicated weekly/monthly backup left behind. PC? Honestly just the latest is fine.
But it’s a 10tb drive, so I’ve got months of backups even if they’re running continuously. It’s less a how comfortable I am and more a how much can I afford. (a lot more before the shortage)
I also explicitly purge stuff that’s constantly changing like logs. I don’t care for logs in my backups. Only on the live machine.

As long as I have space. My backups are on dedicated drives, and as they run out of space the old ones are deleted.

Just RTFM!!!
*reads the manual and there’s nothing about this*
…ok. Now what?
But enclosed in a box without much airflow and those temps are going to creep up over time. And take even longer to cool down. Hopefully there’s fans in the bottom or side. Because one exhaust is not great for even just the heat from those hard drives.
I think the best way to handle airflow out is to have a turn or two on the intake/exhausts for the noise to get trapped. I personally just put mine in my basement though. That limits the sound pretty well.

Gotta go fast. My WiFi can achieve > 1gbit, my internal network is already 10 gig. Why not support faster everywhere?

I do this at work. If you don’t do pass through for the NICs I’d highly suggest it. When it’s a router it’s insane how much the overhead can be.
We have a 4 gig connection and with the virtual nics got maybe just over 1gbit on a Xeon silver based R640. But after pass through solid 3.5ish. Not sure where the bottleneck is currently, but our other servers do >4 just fine.

I was using an N100 based mini PC and it did fine at 1gbit. But now that I have 3, and it’s realistically closer to 4 or 5 it doesn’t cut the mustard.
Proper hardware based routers are also just so much more efficient. That N100 machine was constantly hot to the touch. My new UniFi router uses less power and does 10 gig easily.
Yeah I had some amazing calves from being so fat and just walking.

Why does it matter for a car like this? This isn’t even a car you’re supposed to drive. It’s a car you’re supposed to be driven in.

They’re connected to the internet so they can alert someone when they fail.

Gotta come pick em up, because I can’t anymore.

They do, they’re called servers. Ddr3 era servers are basically worthless. We have some old ddr3 servers at work that I can’t even give away short of dealing with the “free” section of Marketplace or CL. I ain’t dealing with that again.

The change in tdp doesn’t really change how the chip fundamentally acts. If you want a non furnace CPU then underclock it and power limit it. Maybe these new CPUs are 0.1% more power efficient as the manufacturing process has improved. But other than the core counts you can do the exact same thing with the existing chips.

We’re all able to use new technologies on old computer architectures…
Except we’re not? They’re still the same raptor lake CPUs. Maybe a bump in clock speed, maybe a change in core counts. But the underlying technology is still the exact same. The only new tech I’d expect on these boards is WiFi 7 instead of 6e. But most WiFi cards on desktop are M.2 and you can already swap them out.
The only mew thing is that they’re making them again, and making new versions of them. Otherwise it’s the same stuff. It’s just giving people a second chance to upgrade to this older stuff.

As far as I can tell, the 3rd circuit is just one step below the Supreme Court. So unless they take the case it’s pretty stuck. Congress would have to go above and beyond to change the existing laws to allow it.
Also with midterms coming up congress is going to have a harder time passing a law. Especially if the republicans lose the house or the senate. Then they’d have to get the democrats and the republicans to play ball, vs just one currently.
Oh no! If only there were easy ways around paywalls?
