SpaceX has been largely successful, despite Musk, because of Gwynne Shotwell. So Musk shoved X (which he led directly and was falling) into xAI (which was basically failing because it’s bad AI) and then shoved that into SpaceX.
That didn’t fail, but Tesla (which Musk leads directly) is now failing, too. So hey, let’s do what worked before.
Honestly, I’m surprised he hasn’t dumped The Boring Company on her yet.

Tricky to make that work in the (moneyless) Federation. Maybe the Enterprise gives a Whateverian ship asylum against the Ferengi just inside Federation borders, and then the Nagus (Wallace Shawn’s Nagus, of course, I can’t imagine that Rom would do such a thing) demands that they extradite the Whateverians to face prosecution for theft. An investigation ensues, and it turns out that they didn’t actually take anything physical, they just pirated a replicator pattern for the Whateva root, the root of an extinct plant which the people of Whatever III desperately need and are running out of. So now Picard has to figure out how to not cause an interplanetary patent incident and still make sure that the Whateverians get what they need.
The B-plot is pretty solid, though. That can basically stay as-is.
What I really want out of a federated Reddit-like service is link consolidation. I don’t want to see the same link posted on five different communities; I want those to be consolidated into one topic, with the OP text and comments from each threaded below it. It’d clean up the interface and make it work a lot more usefully.
In fact, this would make pretty much everything in the Fediverse better. Let me sort my timeline by URL or hashtag, so that I can see what is being said about a certain thing and not make the same observation or joke that a dozen others already have. Put that functionality into an RSS reader, so that I can see the discussion without leaving the article. Or, even better, merge the two into a single feed, tying threads together based on the URL that’s being shared.
Now that would be an “everything app” worth using.
EDIT: Apparently they’ve already made the first leap there! Everyone’s talking about topics and feeds, I didn’t know they’d made that advancement. Looking forward to trying it out.
Rent-seeking is definitely a sign of a financially-healthy company. Yup. No red flags there.
