You’re right, neither of them are known for providing thousands and thousands of distributed network connections to the same destination resulting in that same destination server running out of resources. They’re clearly not the same thing at all, no, definitely not at all.

You’re right, it’s not like… thousands of network connections are happening to the same site in both cases resulting in resource exhaustion.
Oh, wait…

Same thing used to happen with reddit giving sites the hug of death lol
It’s unfortunate but kind of expected.

Good.

They only have text on the home page, so I’m not super hopeful about that, but then they do link like 10 different compatible clients

I find this thread kind of weird, how like, we have people practically saying Amazon is the best thing ever and then we have people saying Amazon is the most evil thing/company ever etc.
There’s no in between, no nuance, nothing - it’s either one or the other. I find that pretty interesting.

I think it would require reddit to die off even more than it already has, which just may happen.

This is true. Laws are for poor people.

That’s the problem with Lemmy. It’s not large enough to have active niche communities like gaming handhelds like Retroid ones, Anbernic ones, Steam Deck, etc.
What about experienced developers who use AI, do they still count as a yahoo who cannot actually read their own code?
I think it’s a difficult situation because a programmer that has been making software before AI was even a thing is not the same as a vibecoder that doesn’t know what a variable is.
