As someone who was also broke and lived in an old Honda, I know what you’re going through and I’ve been there. If you truly want to change your outcome, you gotta find a job that has high growth potential and a low barrier for entry. Personally I worked at a bank for almost a decade. Started as a teller(low barrier,no college needed), ended as a regional manager(high growth). I hated every minute of it. But it gave me a chance to save up and find a career I enjoy.

Deepseek is open weights. You can just download and use it locally. I would never run deepseek using their servers. Or z.ai servers. That I agree with China is still pretty bad.

I just recently installed Strata which runs on qwen 3.8 flash next. I’m getting over 50 toks. Now a deepseek v4 version is out along with glm 5.3 flash. It’s slower but useable and very capable. All this on a 5080 16GB and 128GB ddr5.

The future for me is going to be open weights and on your own hardware.

I’m running pfsense with wireguard site to site connection between 2 locations. Vlan for my mqtt for my meshtastic. I did have an ad blocker on it but I found it wasn’t very good. It was blocking too many things.

Switched to Adguard on my Proxmox instead.

So when the Ukraine war first started, the executive team asked us to block all traffic from Russia to our site. We logged a similar drop in traffic.

This time around, the traffic also dropped but it looked like it came mostly from the UK, DE, DL and SG. It basically went to zero.

We cross reference those IPs and they were all from a VPN.

38watts and spikes to 65watts from my Synology. My gaming laptop turn proxmox can spike to 350watts but normally sits at 50-75watts.

I’m the lead dev at my job. I started using a self hosted software because it was available to me without asking for budget. We used it for about 8 months and during budgeting, I decided to add this self hosted software to my teams budget because the self hosted software grew to the point where I didn’t want to manage it anymore.

Even with that, the bots know it’s a real number. If you call T-Mobile and tell them to delete voicemail all together, the phone rings and rings and then it does a Click and hangs up.

For T-Mobile, you can remove voicemail all together. You have to call in. So it stimulates that the phone number is bad and gets removed from calling lists.
