Based on my understanding, yes. There will be more affordable models later, they’re supposed to have a full line-up.
But for now, the affordable GOS phone is still a Pixel.

Multiple companies have that approach, I’m not denying there ARE companies doing things right (or at least better).
I work in a company using multiple agents. One of them is supposed to be off Internet, and even with that one we’re not to share sensitive IP.
But Proton is not an isolated case. I bet some execs have invested and promised so much they need to report some good numbers on usage, and you can’t make up productivity improvement if there are people left getting as much done without AI.

AI policies are so dumb. You don’t evaluate people’s perfs on how much they use a tool. So what’s the damn end goal of such evaluation??
"Hey! I did nothing useful this year, but all with AI! -You’re promoted!!
I fixed hundreds of bugs and developed 3 new features all cheered by users! -With AI? -Err… not much -You’re fired!!"

Actually that’s a quite typical time for tech start-up to break even. The whole time they’re funded by business angels.
But for some cases, the loss can be considerable, and still the “start-up” keeps finding investors. Ex: Uber, lost 30 G$ on over 14years before turning around. Or just look at all the AI pure-players companies right now.

This would be so dumb… and at the same time so possible!
Execs totally disconnected from the players base having no damn clue how they’re going to react.
Players are going to be so pissed they’re much less likely to buy anything through MS ever again, but that won’t compute in an exec’s mind.

That still creates a procedural precedence. That means small orgs can get paralyzed from any US whim if they don’t have the means to quickly transfer their servers.
Now the US can ramp up the effort, asking for another server, and another, hey, here’s a list for now. The next one is coming in 3 days.

A decent amount of them are gays in denial. They can’t handle and take it out on the ones who can.

What an era we live in. Movie plot: Evil big pharma secretly unleashes lethal unstoppaple deadly virus and demands billions to search for a remedy. Everyone cheers when the evil CEO dies of a horrible death at the end.
Real life: AI companies openly claim to have rogue agents breaching databases and now developing computers viruses, say they need billions to develop way to control them. Medias treat them as geniuses who will make the world a better place.

“Wasn’t he looking at your kids earlier?” to the biggest dad you find around.
Just kidding: be responsible! Punch the creep yourself!
It looks so marketing driven.
We are in decades of video games. Look at very old game and assess how “ugly” they are by today’s standard while at their time they were “the best graphics ever seen in history!” or something.
And so, the big question: we were having fun with games decades ago already. If graphics were part of the fun, your brain should explode under the immensely higher level of fun you have on modern games vs 20y old games. And… well…nope. Same as before, just higher expectations.
Actually, with resources getting scarce, we should already get comfortable with the idea that a phone should be expensive, and be repairable enough to last for many years!
