Like a fraction of a percent of people will run their own models. It won’t influence price. Remember that coders/tech people are only a minority of users.
I’m a climate scientist by trade. Interested in interesting things. Ecology, complexity, politics, social change, music.

now they are laying of staff? What, did they blow their whole budget out?

I think there’s this belief that guardrails like this are implemented as some kind of rules that the model must follow (like, a logical constraint). They aren’t, they are just extra details added in to the context window - effectively prepended to the response (source: OpenAI’s tutorial on how to implement guardrails). There is no guarantee that it will interpret them correctly, or follow them.

Isn’t fact they are having a hard time offloading that debt an indication that other investors are shying away from it because they see the data centre risk?

I guess that depends how much real damage Trump has done to the underlying economic come B-day.

What is that?

Yeah… Ask him what advice he would have given out around 2007

You can ask your pension find if they’re aware of the bubble. They might have an option with low-AI investment

The AI bubble is propping up the American bond market too (countering all of the other crap Trump had been doing to undermine the economy). When the bubble pops, the bond market is going to suffer massively as well.
Yeah… That shit with ICANN and Autistici kinda raises some red flags now though…
I’m a climate scientist, I’ve been a web dev, and I’ve worked with complexity in climate, risk, and management spaces. So, compared to those I guess. I’ve worked with some software devs who are well aware of complexity concepts, but I’ve never really seen any of them take a complexity-first approach.
I fully acknowledge that I have a particular perspective, but I struggle to believe that most software devs in generic workplaces are better at complexity thinking than the ones I’ve worked with, given the content we were working with.
The bit we should regret is that we let the rich corporates steal it.
In my experience most software developers have very little understanding of complexity, and mostly ignore it or try to design around it, nor with it. Which is mostly just a function of them needing to work to get by, not to contribute something meaningful to society.
We probably should have
Corporations are made of people, and people more broadly let them gain power. That doesn’t seem like a defence, it’s just a description of our failure.
Do… Do you understand what federation means in this context?
Also, have you considered just, like, going outside?
Clearly “all the problems other social media has” are present without federation, so the claim federation leads to those problems is kind of silly.
I don’t know how someone can think “AI CAN obscure reality …”
Obviously the fundamental truth is “AI does obscure reality …” (Often this will be inconsequential, but that doesn’t make it less true).
