The original Pi had 512MB not KB. It ran Linux and had an SD card “disk”. The ESP32 series aren’t in the same class.

I meant see what AP (Activitypub) aimplementation Mastodon is using, and adapt that implementation, not the entirety of Mastodon. In fact quick web search immediately finds there are multiple pre-packaged Ruby gems for Activitypub, so just use one.
I looked at the Wikipedia article about AP and it’s kind of bureaucratic but I don’t see much difficult. Yeah it’s not suited to a raw beginning programmer but it shouldn’t take a big expert. OP, have you done much programming?
I see on Wikipedia that there’s a new thing called “AT Protocol” that’s supposed to improve on AP. That might also be worth looking into.

It would surprise me if there isn’t already an implementation that can be adapted. E.g. as someone said, Mastodon uses Rails .

It might be a bit much for a beginner but for someone with some programming basics it could be a decent way to learn more. It’s all back end stuff, so not much browser madness. Rails has its learning curve but has tons of convenience features. The part I have trouble understanding is why anyone would want this. Say federation appears. Then what? Anyway, OP, if you take this on, I can probably give a bit of technical advice if you want it.

Um what are these things and who should care? That info would help a post like this.
“Beszel” is Hungarian for “speak” if anyone cares.
This looks interesting but boy is it long. Is there a tldr?

Usenet was great back in the day. Decentralized and mostly unmoderated, full of trolls but you learned to block them. It still exists but barely.

No idea I haven’t used any of those modes myself. Someday. https://js8call.com/ might have info, or look on the ham sites.

JS8CALL is great. I can’t believe how much technical brilliance went into FT8 only for it to be deployed in such a stupid protocol. JS8CALL actually puts the brilliance to use.
Email over JS8CALL with all the stuff you mention seems a bit heavyweight because of JS8CALL’s slow speed (around 1 character per second). Something very simple would suffice, like SMS, or SMS single hop to an email gateway. Anyway it should be relatively realtime.
For those of you wondering why anyone would want such a slow modulation scheme, it means you can potentially send SMS-like messages over intercontinental distances purely by direct radio, no internet, no multi-hop routing, no satellites, from a battery powered handheld device. Bigger than a cell phone but let’s say paperback book size, with a few dozen feet of wire as an antenna.
I’ll put looking at your github on my infinite todo list but anyway I’m glad JS8CALL is getting attention.

The software is almost completely irrelevant. It’s all about the story archive. Given Lemmy’s observed distaste for edgy content, I don’t think a federated AO3-like repo is likely to fly, but I’d love to be proven wrong. It might be preferable to have a straightforward mirror if that can be arranged with AO3.

Is this saying Musk talks to himself? It fits, I guess.

I guess I still don’t understand why federation is a positive rather than a negative. Bloggers usually want to give out a single URL to their blog. Plus there are more failure points.

I’m baffled. Is this sort of like kuro5hin back in the day? The front page looks like that, a bunch of random interspersed posts from different people. Is it blog hosting like wordpress.com where each person has their own blog, except propagated between federated instances? Why would a blogger want to use it instead of a self-hosted blog like Alan Turing (or whoever) intended? If you think your blog might get any traction at all, it seems to me important to own its domain name from the beginning.
It might be cool to have a blogging feature added to Lemmy, sort of like Kuro5hin diaries back in the day. They were like mini-blogs that users could write, alongside the regular slashdot-like news section.
It’s written in PHP, vibe coded, and it’s on Microsoft Github. A trifecta.

Yeah those names are mashups of real people’s names who appear in these contexts, e.g. Yuri Milner. I probably would have said “name rings a bell” to both of the made-up ones. They really do and were maybe engineered to.
I just use directories but yeah it would be good to have some kind of metadata repo. Calibre is ok if you sit around curating it. Trouble is a lot of my downloads are arxiv PDFs with nuneric filenames and cataloguing them would take some effort. Meh.

This kind of code has to be done with formal modelling, including when written by humans. alloytools.org looking good to me.
Inb4 Sam Altman says all hard drives belong in data centers.
