I don’t know about 100%, but I get the feeling a lot of it is vibe coded.
You can check the code frequency and contributors (there is only one, the maintainer).

I wonder if there are donation platforms that you could donate to, so you make 1 donation and it gets divided among a group.
The Tor project actually did something like that this year, maybe they’ll do it again in the future. There are probably more campaigns like this but I haven’t looked deeper into it.

Like others have already said, “creators” isn’t just video creators. I support people and organisations from Mastodon as well for example in addition to developers building the platforms/clients.
Since you’re on a Lemmy server, you could consider supporting that specific server or Lemmy development in general.

Ah, it’s described in the readme.
Catodon is a fork of Misskey that brings together the best features of Sharkey, Firefish and Iceshrimp, and adds what none of them has: Lemmy-compatible forums and federated blogs. Microblogging, forums and blogs live in one place, and it is built to make communities easier to run, easier to understand, and more comfortable to use every day.

How does this differ from Misskey?

Maybe Reddit will make up for it with all the traffic coming from bots.
In theory, yes. But that’s usually not what happens in practice. I don’t know if that’s the case for Mbin but I have no interest in finding out. Most people that do LLM driven development submit code that looks right, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is right. The same probably applies to reviewers when approving/merging changes, if they have way more code to review I wouldn’t be surprised if they get lazier with it, might even be subconsciously.
There are a lot more reasons why using LLMs is generally speaking not a good idea, but to keep it short I’ll just share some relevant articles/posts that go more in depth and explain it better than me:
I was somewhat interested until I read the last part. I personally have no interest in contributing to projects that rely on AI and I feel like others feel the same way. It results in more code being shipped than necessary and thus requires a lot more time to understand and modify, I’d rather spend that time on projects that don’t rely on LLMs.
Are there any plans to make this project open source?

They should consider LibreOffice if they don’t need cloud features.

Why is the development group not federated?

I wish websites like these weren’t vibe coded because they could offer real value. I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending it because I can’t guarantee the information is/will be correct.
Edit: I just noticed it’s partly made by dansup, I guess it makes sense why AI is involved.

It means the project may be vibe coded (LLM generated with little to no verification of what the output is); meaning it’s a lot more likely to contain security vulnerabilities and privacy concerns.
And that’s ignoring the ethical concerns of using AI in addition to the lifespan of the project (vibe coded software often isn’t maintained very long).
