It’s the same “think of the children” bullshit they use for removing abortion rights, healthcare privacy, internet anonymity, location tracking, and any other law enforcement abuses that come up.
Unless that update comes with a promotional push and/or another major transgression by the big platforms, I wouldn’t expect a software update to change things.
I’m getting ready to start one of the communities I miss from Reddit and will hopefully get some converts to join me, but I don’t have a lot of time coming up, so going will be slow.
They won’t really produce any heat if they sleep properly. Also that should help them last quite a bit longer.

Went to a shitty sales pitch at a bank the other day and the guy mentioned that we should decide and meet before Nov 1. He said there was meeting then.
I asked what meeting (think Fed meeting or some kind of treasury report due out). The guy had no clue, then I realized it was because of the election and laughed at the fucking guy.
On the way out he mentioned that we should move our stocks into cash before November. I think that might be what’s really happening, but it would also be a good excuse to hide the AI bubble burst.

Adding “no plate readers” routing like “avoid tolls” would be interesting. Probably impossible in some cities, but still it would be enlightening at the very least.

XZ Utils made it past all those checks with malicious code from a human.
If they’d been more careful with their tarball commits it probably would have made it into the final and commercial distros.
It made into Homebrew for instance.

Unfortunately the Russian plan has already convinced a majority of republicans of their talking points. So now a decent proportion of the “bots” are human parrots who now largely believe their own bullshit. Or at least believe they need to troll to win for their side. Taking out the bots is nice, but a decade too late.

They did some commendable things involving locking phones when lost/stolen/seized by cops.
They’ve also done some typical tech monopoly things with os bloat, slowing down old hardware and poor support for older hardware.

Should mimic the Stingray next. See how they like their personal cellphones being tied to their license plate number and locations.

I’m gonna start logging onto the app, filling in a cart and then not checking out.
Might stop into the kiosks and do that too when I’m passing one.
Drive down the costs for the people who need it.

$1.1M an hour right?
At least $1.1M a day right?
Not even $1.1M a week???

They’re going to figure it out and go back to sounding like modems, and saves the spare tokens to plot our demise.
Cracks are appearing would have been funnier.
